macOS

  1. Click the download button to get the .dmg file.
  2. Double-click the file once it finishes downloading.
  3. Drag the app icon into your Applications folder.
  4. Eject the disk image by clicking the eject icon in Finder.
  5. Open the app from Applications. If you see a security prompt, right-click the app → OpenOpen again.

In other words, after dragging our app's icon into the applications folder you will need to launch it 2 times because the first 2 times you launch it you will get a message saying it can't open it BUT the 3rd time you open it you will see a new button "open" and clicking that will allow the app to open normally in the future without this bullshit from Apple.

Typical Installation via .dmg

Double-click the .dmg to mount it. It appears like a virtual disk in Finder.
Drag your .app file from the mounted .dmg into the /Applications folder (or another desired directory), which may require entering an admin password. Eject the mounted volume, usually by clicking the eject icon next to it in Finder. Optionally delete the .dmg from the Downloads folder. This is standard macOS behavior—like a virtual USB drive with your app inside. The .dmg itself isn't executable, it's just a container.
